Strange events are taking place across the school, and two mysterious sisters, Yuzu and Lime Shijou, reveal to Hinako that these occurrences are caused by Hoshinomiya’s status as a hellmouth.
Despite her efforts to remain aloof, their overtures towards friendship, combined with her natural leadership qualities, mean that Hinako quickly assumes a senior role in her class. That said, Hinako’s reputation precedes her, and some of the other girls at Hoshinomiya know and admire her on account of her past achievements and acquirements. Starting at a new school can be an exciting step in life, but the occasion has been soured and overshadowed by Hinako’s misfortune, and her mood ranges from despondency to outright depression: not the ideal frame of mind in which to make new friends and adapt to a new environment. Hinako was a ballet prodigy with a promising future, before a bad accident seriously damaged her knee and ended her hopes of realizing her dream to become a danseuse étoile. The story is set in Hoshinomiya Academy, a Japanese girls’ high school introduced to us through the eyes of teenager Hinako Shirai, who has just started there following a long absence. Blue Reflection (2017) is a JRPG developed by Gust, a company chiefly known for the long-running Atelier series.
